Decommissioning Engineering for Offshore Platforms

Engineering for the removal of ageing offshore platforms and pipelines: structural assessment of the as-is condition for cutting and lifting, reverse-installation and lift engineering, sea-fastening for the return transport, pipeline decommissioning options and the comparative assessment behind the decommissioning plan. Built on the same survey and integrity work we deliver for life extension.

Decommissioning Engineering for Offshore Platforms

What you receive

  • As-is structural assessment from survey data for cut, lift and load-out conditions
  • Removal method comparison: piece-small, reverse installation, single lift, float-over reverse
  • Lift, rigging and cut-sequence engineering; residual-strength checks at each stage
  • Sea-fastening and transport engineering for removed jackets and topsides
  • Pipeline decommissioning options (leave in situ, trench and bury, recover) and cleaning/flushing inputs
  • Inputs to the decommissioning programme and regulator submissions

The reverse of installation, with worse data

Removal engineering uses the same lifting, sea-fastening and transportation methods as installation, but on structures with corrosion, marine growth, missing members and lifting points that were never designed for the return trip. The survey and as-is model from a life-extension assessment is therefore the starting point of a decommissioning study, and we run both from one model.

Markets

Mumbai High’s early platforms, the Gulf’s shallow-water fields and the North Sea all face removal programmes this decade. We deliver the engineering for operators, decommissioning contractors and heavy-lift and T&I contractors from Mumbai.

Regions we serve for this

Offshore, Marine & Pipeline Engineering in IndiaKannamwar Engineering is headquartered in Mumbai and delivers offshore structural, naval architecture and pipeline engineering to operators, EPC contractors and yards across India: ONGC’s western offshore fields, HPCL’s marine terminals, west-coast LNG infrastructure and the east-coast basins. 39 ONGC jacket structures assessed, riser and conductor installation campaigns engineered, and 120+ days of offshore site supervision at Mumbai High.Offshore Engineering Support for the Gulf: UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, KuwaitEngineering support for EPC, T&I and fabrication contractors and jack-up operators working in the Arabian Gulf: jacket and topside engineering, sea-fastening and load-out packages, lifting engineering, jack-up site-specific assessment support and third-party design review, delivered from Mumbai in the same working day. Saudi Aramco and Lamprell are among our clients.Naval Architecture & Vessel Conversion Engineering for Norway and the North SeaRemote engineering support for vessel owners, conversion yards and offshore contractors in Norway, the UK and the wider North Sea: OSV and PSV conversions, deck strengthening and class approval under DNV, stability and mooring analysis, and third-party design review. In 2024 our team engineered an OSV-to-well-stimulation-vessel conversion in Norway that added 200 tonnes of steel under DNV class.
