Third-party verification (TPV)

Third-party verification is an independent technical check of engineering against the project design basis and the applicable codes, commissioned by the owner or operator. Unlike class approval, which checks compliance with a classification society’s rules, TPV covers whatever the owner needs verified — often by rebuilding the critical analyses.

TPV, class approval and MWS compared

  • Class approval: compliance with class rules for a vessel or unit, issued by the society.
  • Marine warranty survey: approval of a specific marine operation for the insurer.
  • Third-party verification: owner-driven check of the engineering against the design basis and codes, scope defined by the owner, often including independent re-analysis.
