Marine warranty survey (MWS)

A marine warranty survey is the independent review and approval of a marine operation — a load-out, transport, lift, installation or tow — on behalf of the insurer. The marine warranty surveyor checks the engineering, procedures and equipment against a standard such as DNV-ST-N001 and issues a certificate of approval before the operation proceeds.

What the engineer must submit

The MWS reviews the transportation motion analysis, sea-fastening and grillage calculations, lift analyses and rigging, ballast and load-out sequences, stability at each stage, method statements and the certificates for equipment. The designer answers the surveyor’s comments until a certificate of approval is issued.

Independence

The MWS must be independent of the design and installation contractors. Kannamwar Engineering prepares the packages the MWS reviews; it does not act as MWS on operations it has engineered.
