Sea fastening

Sea fastening is the temporary structure — stoppers, braces, lashings, clips and welds — that holds a cargo to the deck of a barge or vessel during a sea transport, designed for the inertia loads from the vessel’s motions in the design sea state. The sea-fastening design and the grillage beneath it are checked by the marine warranty surveyor before sailing.

Motion criteria from DNV-ST-N001 defaults or a route-specific motion study; load cases combining roll, pitch and heave accelerations with wind; member, weld and lashing capacities with the code factors; and the barge deck, grillage and internals checked for the local reactions.
