Float-over installation

Float-over is a method of installing a topside on a jacket or a floating hull without a heavy-lift crane: the topside is transported on a barge that is manoeuvred between the jacket legs, then ballasted down so the load transfers through leg-mating units onto the substructure. It allows single-piece topsides heavier than any available crane.

Float-over installation

Engineering involved

Barge motion and mating analysis, leg-mating and deck-support unit design, ballast sequence and clearances, barge structural checks under the topside and during transfer, mooring and positioning, and the sea-fastening for the transport before the operation.

Services we deliver here

Sea Fastening & Load-out EngineeringSea-fastening and load-out engineering for cargo, modules and cranes carried on barges and heavy-transport vessels: motion and acceleration criteria, grillage and tie-down design, ballast and load-out sequences, and the calculation package prepared for marine warranty surveyor approval. Delivered from Mumbai to EPC, T&I and fabrication contractors in India, the Gulf, West Africa and Southeast Asia.Lifting & Heavy-Lift EngineeringLift engineering for offshore and yard lifts: rigging design, lift-point and padeye checks, dynamic amplification, crane-vessel and barge stability during the lift, and the lift plan calculations reviewed by class or a marine warranty surveyor. Our team has engineered 100+ heavy lifts, including riser and conductor installation campaigns on ONGC platforms.
