FEED (front-end engineering design)

Front-end engineering design is the project phase between concept selection and detailed engineering in which the design basis, process and layout, major equipment, structural concept and cost estimate are fixed to a level that supports the final investment decision and the EPC tender. A good FEED locks most of the project’s cost and schedule risk.

Typical offshore FEED deliverables

Design basis; process flow diagrams and heat and material balances; layout and general arrangement; structural concept and weight report; marine and installation philosophy; equipment lists and datasheets; Class 3 cost estimate; execution plan and EPC scope of work.
